In Decadence
When writing music, I seem to always start with a guitar part I "fell" upon, or accidentally played. It seems to be how things best start. Then depending on the vibe I get, I may factor in what it will sound like with other instruments involved. But once I have the whole guitar part about 90% solidified, I start writing lyrics (unless I'm using lyrics I'd already written), but I seem to write lyrics better when I know my part, when I have a song, and when I have a melody/hook I can write to. After the lyrics are written, I may have some minor tweaking to do, I play it, and play it, and play it while singing to find a vocal line and rhythm that come natural to me. I practice this new song I've written until I'm comfortable enough to sing it without looking at words and when everything feels right. I won't write another song until I'm confident with this one. It usually (I stress usually) doesn't take long before I find myself with enough songs for an album or recording. For example, my album 'In Decadence' started being written in Aug. of 2013 and I finished the last song of the story in Feb. of 2014. I started recording the end of Feb. and finished the end of Mar. or so, everything tracked. Then it needed to be mixed and mastered and so on and so forth. Writing music is a passion I wish I could give to everybody who don't have a musical passion. It's timeless and you can easily fall in love with writing or with any song you write/cover/hear on the radio. I highly recommend those who don't play an instrument to grab anything..a guitar, some skins, anything at all. Just play around with the endless possibilities. If you can find a teacher, grab one of them, too. Learn whatever your brain will allow you to. Just open it up to anything and everything. Listen to everything. Give it a chance.
