Prokofiev: Alexander Nevsky, Op. 78 - Glazunov: Violin Concerto in A Minor, Op. 82

In 1938 the Russian film director Sergeij M. Eisenstein produced a heroic film epos about the Russian National Hero Alexander Nevsky, and the film score was written by noone else then Sergei Prokofiev, who later transformed his film music into a dramatic and monumental cantata for orchestra and choir. This cantata op. 78 is prominently featured on our album, played by the Vienna State Opera Orchestra and conducted by Mario Rossi. The music is mind blowing, full of power with a central "Battle on the Ice" as the musical highlight follwed by a solem lamento and prayer for the dead of the war. So this album is a "Must Hear" for both lovers of film AND classical music. Alexander Glazunov's "Concerto for Violin and Orchestra in A Minor" played by Michael Schwalbe closes this new album in a non martial and highly romantic and conciliatory way.
