Volume 1. The Outside Connect Jawn
BurnDown Studios is a community center for underground Philly artists. BurnDown presents...Volume 1. The Outside Connect Jawn is their first full-length CD release featuring over 30 of Philly's hottest unsigned musicians, mc's, singers and beatmakers. This record is a compilation but not in the classic sense. Every artist represented on Volume 1 contributed his or her talent as an individual, not as a member of a particular group. Herein lies the beauty and uniqueness of this project. In August of 2002, BurnDown founders Dave Quicks, RokBottm and AJ Niedosik hosted a series of recording parties in a warehouse five minutes from center city Philadelphia. Attracting members of Princes of Babylon, The Ally, K-Floor, Fathead, Electric City, Blue Method, Mutlu, Subtle Ground, Saigon Slim, The Mia Johnson Band and more, the parties were an unexpected and happy success. The only rule of the sessions: you must play with musicians from other bands. Drawing from the hours of improvised music, the producers at BurnDown began shaping the material that would eventually become the foundation of "The Outside Connect Jawn." Based on this root concept, the project continued to expand and grow, including an ever-increasing talent pool. As the material piled up, BurnDown realized that this was music people needed to hear. The fresh approach to recording and the attitude of "music for music's sake" fostered an environment were great artists could really shine. Now BurnDown presents to you, in "The Outside Connect Jawn," the new idiom, Philly-style.
