Julie Tussey Christian BluesRecording Artist and Author, Julie Tussey, formerly Julie Jenkins, releases her 3rd CD, HillBilly Praise! Vol. 1 Julie began singing publicly at the tender age of 9 years old at the Coleman Elementary School. By the time she was 17 years old she had asked Jesus Christ into her life and began pursuing Christian music, feeling a strong call to minister. For many years Julie sang and traveled extensively in the great state of Michigan and across the US. After meeting and marrying her husband, Pastor Gary Tussey, this dynamic couple have ministrered together across the USA . Julie has enjoyed some wonderful opportunities, as she has followed the call of God, to share her dream to sing and speak. Opening for nationally known artists such as Phil Keaggy, The News Boys and touring with Reba Rambo and Dony McGuire were just a few of those opportunities. “I’ve enjoyed every minute of travel and living in the south and working with all these tremendously talented people”, says Julie, “ I believe Jesus is going to do some awesome things in our generation I want to not only be a part of that but also I want to be a catalyst for that! “ Julie released her first CD, We Are A Remnant in 1989 and a follow-up CD which was produced by the popular Christian Band, David and the Giants, entitled An Awesome Hour, was released in 1991. Now Julie and her husband, Gary, have joined their musical talents to create HillBilly Praise! Vol. 1. A culmination of Rhythm & Blues meets Gospel, inspired by the roots of American Music; this CD is breaking new ground and contributing to a fresh, new sound in the Christian Music genre. Julie’s husband is a Blues piano and guitar player with a tremendous heart to reach others with the Gospel. Writing all the songs on the CD with the exception of re-writes on “Rock of Ages” and “Pass Me Not” this couple proves that ’Jesus is in the music’! The hit song “Resplendent” along with nine others create a tsunami of sound that is a “must hear“. Gary and Julie are preparing to record their fourth Music CD, are now writing a Christmas album and are currently releasing their newest series, Speak the Word Only, topical scripture reading with music. First, Julie is a tremendous vocalist proven by two very successful Contemporary Christian CD's and a third, Rhythm and Blues meets Gospel. She is upbeat and contemporary with a gospel feel and has ministered in music since she was 17 years old. Gary loves to sing and play the guitar and piano. Don't expect Gary's sound to comform to your favorite church music, he has decided that the roots of american music with it's guttsy, raw and passionate edge, is what has brought us here and will lead us on. Gary's grandfather, on his mothers side, Tom Lundsford, and his wife, Ida, hosted a radio show on WLW in Cincinnati Ohio in the 1930's and 40's. Tom would play the guitar and the two would sing songs like "'Ol Shep", "Ballad of John Henry" and "Your Cheatin' Heart". When Gary was a child he was first acquainted with the guitar by his Grandpa Tom and has played since he was eight years old. Through his childhood Gary was exposed to a wide range of music. His biggest influences were Jerry Lee Lewis, Jimmy Swaggart and Ray Charles. These influences caused Gary to fall in love with the floating left hand style of piano to the extent that he would hold his right hand behind his back take his foot off the sustain pedal and play for hours just using the left hand until he mastered the floating left hand style. This style may not be for everyone but for those who enjoy it and understand it, you'll find the genuine article in Gary Tussey. The combination of these two ministry gifts really flow in a dynamic anointing that truly sets the captive free and edifies the body of Christ.
