Forgetfulness

Forgetfulness

The Black Ghosts are back with 'Forgetfulness', one of the highlights from their last album remixed by Fake Blood, Maribou State and Sona Vabos... The Black Ghosts burst on to the scene back in 2006 with a string of singles that captured their unique fusion of folk tinged songwriting and edgy electronic production. The brainchild of songwriter/vocalist and Simon 'Skywave' Lord and production wizard Theo 'Fake Blood' Keating, the Black Ghosts have gone on to become a highly respected act with two outstanding album releases under their collective belt. Now the duo are back with one of the gems from their superb album 'When Animals Stare', the excellent 'Forgetfulness'. The single opens with a remix from Fake Blood, the moniker that Theo Keating has recently used to take the world by storm. His mix twists up the original parts into a swirling storm of tightly edited vocal snippets, synth sax stabs and rounded bass that deliver a memorable and original version. Next up we have Southern Fried darlings Maribou State who apply their richly produced style to 'Forgetfulness' turning in a mix that is full with warm washes of sound and skittering rhythms, simply sublime! The last of the remix versions sees the ever-excellent Sona Vabos step up and turn in a brooding techy House affair that weaves Lord's vocals into a brilliant heads down groove. To close the package we have the superb original version with its bittersweet vocal melodies and lighthearted instrumentation, quality stuff. With their blend of singer/songwriter sensibilities and quirky electronic production The Black Ghosts certainly have something unique and this remix package offers up three outstanding alternative takes on what is a great original track. The single also falls shortly before the release of a beautiful all acoustic version of the 'When Animals Stare' album, due to hit the streets in later April so there is much to look forward to.
