Jack and White
JACK AND WHITE A lost boy of Neverland living for the moment, meets the all-American girl next door, is the tale of this quirky and unexpected pairing now known as JACK AND WHITE. Outside looking in, it doesn’t make sense. But when you dig below the surface, you’ll find two souls tuning to an identical wavelength, an undeniable bond that has led them to an electric passion rooted deep wi...thin. Jack Matranga, born and raised in Sacramento, California, strummed his way onto the indie pop-rock scene in 2004. It wasn’t long until his band signed their first major indie record deal, recorded an album and took their act on the road. Crammed into a twelve passenger van they lived the life that countless bands dream of: touring the country from coast to coast, even taking their songs across the pond to perform in the UK. Since then, Jack decided it was time to head down south to the city of Angels where he and his roommate found an apartment in the heart of the urban palm tree paradise known as Silverlake, CA. Brooke White, a beauty school dropout, moved to LA from her native hometown of Mesa, Arizona in hopes of becoming a singer-songwriter. She settled down early and by the age of twenty, married her CPA boyfriend from Nova Scotia and the two bought their first home in sunny southern California. After a handful of years spent chasing the dream, cutting hair in her bathroom and being the nanny of twins, she finally landed her big break when she was granted a golden ticket to perform on the nation's biggest stage, where millions of viewers formed an emotional relationship and welcomed her warm voice into their homes on a weekly basis. Just months ago, Brooke and Jack were blindly setup to co-write a song for what was supposed to be Brooke’s next solo record. The pair had no expectations and minimal knowledge of each other’s history, musical or otherwise. But they found an almost instantaneous creative chemistry and spent the first hour just talking, sharing their influences and favorite songs. In just a few short hours, JACK AND WHITE penned their first tune. “I chalked it up to beginners luck but after listening to the playback I was hooked and knew that we had to write again” said Brooke. And so they did, again, again and again.... One co-write for Brooke’s next record turned into six songs with a distinct identity all their own, prompting these two free spirits to create Gemini, their first EP together as JACK AND WHITE. Though Brooke and Jack hold little fascination with astrology, they found that they both shared June birthdays and the Gemini sign. The concept of duality holds a striking parallel to their lives and triggered their writing of this collection of songs that has been described as “reminiscent of the Buckingham/Nicks pairing of the 70's.” With Jack’s luminous guitar picking and Brooke’s warm airy vocal style, the two have harmonized to create something completely modern and relevant, yet classic sounding. “When I sat down with Brooke, it was clear from the beginning that in writing all we both cared about was creating awesome music and nothing else,” said Jack. Brooke shares the same sentiment, “I’ve never felt the songwriting process flow so naturally, there is a freedom here to express creatively without fear. It’s as if we share the same mind. We aren’t over-thinking the end result, it is all completely instinctual. A collaboration like this is a rarity”. While the two of them have spent years on their own endeavors, Brooke White and Jack Matranga now find themselves traveling on the same path, just beginning their musical journey together. That journey has this happy-go-lucky pair brimming with energy and positivity for the future. And that is the magic that shines through this self-produced, labor of love EP known as Gemini. Call it a happy accident, call it fate... It’s real, it’s unforced, and its way more then we asked for.
