Moxiie

Moxiie

MoXiiE is a first generation Haitian/American artist who's early years were spent in a drug ridden Brooklyn neighborhood in the early 90s. Born to teenage parents, there was no money, no plan. She was raised on MTV, sounds of the Caribbean, Biggie & Jay-z. The singer recounts moving to Haiti as a child: "I was sent to live with family in Haiti with my siblings because my mom was really young, my dad bailed out and the drug issue in our neighborhood was really bad. My grandma stepped in a lot, and supported us as a maid at a hotel in NYC. Of course I hated moving to Haiti, but now I am so grateful for that experience."   Moxiie's journey has been one full of sacrifice, "There have been so many times when I was just flat broke. I waitressed, cleaned dance studios and bathrooms so I could afford dance classes. Music drives me."   After years as a studio rat, writing songs in NYC, L.A. and Atlanta, Moxiie decided enough is enough. "It was killing me. I was so unhappy. I needed it to be fun again. So I went out on my own." By some great stroke of luck Moxiie landed a gig with New York City Ballet doing make-up. "It was a blessing and I felt like the Universe was giving me the support I needed. Inspiration and stability."   This rising star debuted her self-created genre Jungle Pop with her first EP of the same name in December 2011, handling the songwriting exclusively. A month later her track Dancing In Dirt landed on MTVs list of buzzed about singles and Jon Alis song of the week.   In December 2012, with the release of her LP - SAVAGE, Moxiie evolved the jungle pop sound even co-producing. Art Nouveau Magazine called it a tour-de-force of a pop album. This independent artist finds herself at the center of a unique group of producers: Fredro (Wonder Girls, Sugababes), Reo (Beyonce, Lil' Wayne), Jay Easel (Miranda Lambert, Reggie Watts), Peter Wade (MNDR, Jennifer Lopez), The Hustle Standard (Rob Bailey) and more.   SAVAGE spawned another MTV Buzzworthy moment with the track Lay Down Your Crown Both projects have featured on blogs worldwide.   Hard work definitely pays off, because a deal with Island Records/Universal Australia has Moxiie fresh off shooting her first music video backed by a major label, and it's due out this summer.   Moxiie is featured on the "Live Long" a DJ SAV's & BIG KID Xavier production on SAV's "You Are Not The Father" EP, released in July on MAD DECENT.   Also check out: Timebombs with Germanys Strobe and Jashari, which has amassed over 300,000 views on YouTube. Shes also featured on Ah Yeah with Brazils own - The Kickstarts, now available on Beatport.   The Buzz: "Moxiie returned at the tail end of 2012 with her newest release, Savage -- a collection of feisty, in-your-face pop anthems. "Lay Down Your Crown," the final offering from the set, sees Moxiie coming for wigs... and crowns." Buzzworthy.mtv.com   "Savage is pop that reminds us of a more commercial Charli XCX meets Natalia Kills."                                                           OhMyRock.com   "() Aggressive pop jam with heavy synths, infectious hard hitting claps and sickening melody."   JonAlisBlog.com   "Like a more top-forty-friendly Santigold, Moxiie's mixed twisted tribal beats, big fat bass, and gory synths to create the Jungle Pop sound. To put it simply: Jungle Pop is about as fresh as pop music gets."   TheProphetBlog.net
