Buddy

Buddy is an indie pop group from Los Angeles, California formed in 2006 and named after the lead singer. Band members Buddy - vocals, guitar Will Golden - bass (Gary Jules, Cougar Town) Al Sgro - vocals, shakers, tambourine, bells, drums (Gary Jules, Cougar Town) Michael Jerome - drums (John Cale, Blind Boys of Alabama) Fil Krohnengold - vocals, keyboards (Golden Smog, Duncan Sheik, operation aloha) Percy Haverson aka. Percy Galore - vocals, guitar (Knifeyhead) Holly Conlan - vocals, keys History Buddy (last name Humberston) grew up in Portland, Oregon, developing an interest in music by the age of 10, and forming his first band by the age of 16. He left Portland to study English at Providence College in Rhode Island, after which he moved to Austin, Texas where he began again to focus on music. Buddy joined local band Piltdowns, supporting bands such as Spoon, and gaining interest from local record labels. In 2002, Buddy relocated to Los Angeles, California, continued writing his own songs, and performed his first solo show at the Hotel Café in July 2004. He also played at one of his friend Greg Behrendt's "Bring the Rock" nights at Largo, where he met musician and producer Robbie Rist. Together they produced and recorded Buddy's first EP, self-titled, which was self-released in November 2004. Local KCRW DJ Tricia Halloran began playing "Salt Point" from the EP and a radio station in Denver picked up on the cover of Kelis's "Milkshake", which helped to boost popularity. Buddy was offered deals with UK record labels, but he chose not to sign and instead continued promoting his material and playing live shows. Buddy's music has been featured in ABC's Grey's Anatomy,The CW shows: One Tree Hill, Smallville, and CBS's Ghost Whisperer. In July 2007 Buddy was featured by Apple iTunes music store's Indie Spotlight and CMJ's Band Spotlight. In October 2007, Buddy played at Carnegie Hall with Aimee Mann and Howard Jones amongst others for a tribute to the songs of Elton John and Bernie Taupin. Buddy and band began work on their follow-up to Alterations and Repairs release in the winter of 2008 at "the chalet" studios in Los Angeles. Ian Ball of the UK band Gomez (band) came on board as co-producer. Mixed by Brian Deck of the Shins,Iron & Wine, and Mastered by Grammy Award winner Gavin Lurssen. No release date is available but it is expected in early 2010. Tracks from new record have already been featured on CBS's Ghost Whisperer and a track entitled "Lighthouse" will have its debut on an upcoming episode of Drop Dead Diva this october.
